Watercress Salad son:

Packet of 150+ seeds from this super easy to grow and incredibly nutritious plant!
I recommend you Google "Cancer + Nasturtium Officinal" as the PROVEN health benefits of this one are quite astounding!
To summarise, its just bloody fantastic as an antioxidant. Its also been shown to stop the damage of cells that is directly linked to Breast and Colon Cancer development!
High in Vitamins A , B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B17, C, D, E, K and Heaps of Minerals and Trace elements including Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Iron, Sodium, Magnesium, Copper, Manganese, Florien, Sulphur, Chlorine, Iodine, Silica, Zinc and Germanium which is not commonly found in most plants and may be a key to its health benefits?
It tastes crisp, juicy, with a bit of pepper to it. Kept in dry or stressed conditions, this peppery bite increases in intensity. If kept in clean fresh water and well looked after the flavour and texture is much more "lettuce" like.
The BEST way to grow is next to a dam or pond or tap. When I was a kid down south it use to just grow feral in the local streams and creeks and was always good for a feed when I was exploring.
Unfortunately, up here, things are not nearly as lush and green, and every critter around, is out looking for plants like this.
We have quite a few local herbivores that like the taste, so much so, it never gets a chance to establish here. Its just too tasty!!!
The Ducks, Roost, Bettongs, Chooks, Magpies, Water hens, Guinea Pigs even the bloody Dog love the stuff, and will wipe it out every single time, if given half a chance!
You guys will probably have much more luck in the city or down south a bit, but up here, 1 week of dry weather, and everything gets eaten off at ground level, and this stuff just cant handle it.
It needs a couple cm of stem left to reshoot from.
So, after 50+ tries of establishing a wild patch, I have just settled on just growing it like this>>>>
The way I do it is, in a $15 "roller box" or plastic tub from the $2 shop. I just punch a hole in the side about 2 inches up the side, to stop accidental drowning of the plants in heavy rain or overwatering.
Inside the tub we add heaps of little pots of any old soil, it doesn't matter what it is as long as the top bit is nice and loose.(yoghurt/butter/margarine/takeaway container or whatever you can scrounge up will do, just wack a decent hole in the bottom)
We then sprinkle a tiny pinch of seeds on top, water heaps with a watering can till the water is about an inch deep in the tub, and wait.
Sprouts will be up in about a week, and you should be harvesting the odd leaf in a month, bunches/handfuls in 2months.
Just always keep the water a couple cm deep and you can't go wrong. If you put a piece of fly mesh over the top, it stops mozzies and the little grasshoppers etc.
etc. etc. from having a munch too which is a bonus, and each tub provides about a salad bowl FULL every week!
Awesome stuff, easy to grow, tastes great, and is super healthy as well!!!
